Laurel Garden Club
The Club was founded and first presided over by Julia Kosak with the meeting held in her home on July 17, 1956.
Originally Called “The Scranton Garden Club”
Name was changed to “Laurel Garden Club” in honor of Pennsylvania State Flower The Mountain Laurel.
Meetings were held in the YWCA on the First Thursday of Each Month; Later changed to The Tripp House in 1986 and currently Meetings are held at St. Luke’s Church in Scranton.
Membership has consisted of avid gardeners, both men and women of all ages with a membership more than 100 over the years.
Club Philosophy: “Shall endeavor to encourage and perpetuate interest in growing, arranging, displaying and utilizing the beauties of nature as found in indoor and outdoor gardening and to arouse public interest in conserving the natural resources of our community and our country.”
Meetings have included many wonderful guest speakers over the years, competition of members in flowing arranging and plant display, auctions, wonderful home made refreshments and social interaction, annual Summer Picnic and Christmas Party as well as tours of member gardens.
